The Focke-Wulf Fw190d-9 Dora
Thank you for downloading the Fw190d-9 "Dora", version 1.0!
This aircraft is freeware. It will not be bought, sold, or traded for profit without the written permission of the author (me). If you make any improvements to the airfile, textures, or visual model, please send me the changes so I can keep them updated here! --Hugh Shoults, 29 Mar 00
Fielded in August 1944, the D-9 variant of Kurt Tank’s famous Fw190 Series was one of the finest piston-engined fighters ever built. With a Jumo 213A-1 in-line engine rated at 1776 hp and Water/Methanol (MW50) injection (F10 key) boosting the engine to 2240 hp for short periods, it was also one of the fastest (426 mph at 21,650 feet)!
The Dora had a range of 520 miles at 18,500 feet (internal fuel) and was armed with two 20-mm MG 151 cannon in the wing roots (200 rpg) and two 13-mm MG 131 machine guns in the cowling (475 rpg). Many aircraft were also modified to carry bombs.
With an experienced pilot, the new D9 was even more maneuverable than the "A" model. This flight model requires a lot of trim ("7" and "1" key with "Num Lock" OFF) just like the real aircraft would.
I’m sorry about the "bounce" while you’re on the runway. Think of it being representative of the poor condition the airfields of the Third Reich were in by late 1944! If anyone is able to fix this, let me know!
I’ve also included a new stall sound that’s pretty close to the sound of the wind buffeting against the side of the fuselage just as the aircraft enters a stall. Anyway, it’s much better than that dang buzzer. Just in case, I’ve included a copy of the buzzer just in case you want to change back: Don’t worry, you won’t!)
In the CREDITS section I've listed the people who assisted/worked on my Dora (in no order whatsoever--Hope I didn't forget anybody!)... I hope you, the pilot, have as much fun flying it as we did in making it!
